Week in Books

So this past week has also been good to me just like last. Today the UPS Guy charged at me yelling my name from far away to get my attention. I was walking home and he had just left leaving a note on the door as no one was there to answer. When he saw me coming he bellows my name and runs over to give to me the book he was there to deliver. So funny I think it’s at the stage that the UPS guy looks forward to the delivery more than me. Ok maybe not but close. This is the second UPS guy now to get to know me because of the amount of deliveries I get.

Today he delivered for me.

James Pattersons Run For Your Life from Joystory

This last week I also received

Beat The Reaper by Josh Bazell from Joseph’s Reviews

Eric Van Lustbaders : Last Snow it’s an Arc and I do believe if I remember correctly that it’s from Shelf Awareness requested via their newsletter I receive. Not 100% sure though. It’s hard to keep track.

One I completely cannot figure out where it came from is The Bible Salesman by Clyde Edgerton which is stupid because I remember the email letting me know I’ve won. It came in the mail this week and I don’t know which blog I won it on. I always save the emails I get so I can keep track but I now cannot find the email. Doh!
Whoever it is thanks and woops sorry, but I’m gonna try and figure it out.

Aside from that one woops it’s been an awesome week. Great books coming in the Eric Van Lustbader one my mother and a friend have already put dips on it so two readers lined up. I for one have a couple books from the library and then no matter what I will read some of the books I’ve won. They are great books and I so want to read them, why is there never enough time?

Edited to add : I forgot a book figures. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini came from a lovely blogger who was simply offering up books from her personal library. I requested this one off the list and here it is. But like The Bible Salesman I am unable to find the email and therefor link to the blogger in question. This is really infuriating I feel like a total butthead. Le Sigh.

And thanks ladies for the comments yep lots of reading for me.

Richard Brautigan In Watermelon Sugar review

Richard Brautigan’s In Watermelon Sugar is a book I first heard about when I discovered the 1001 Books to read before you die list. Me being me I had to go through the list to see what I had read and what sounded good so I could get to it. While it has been slow going I am getting there and reading a few off the list.

In Watermelon Sugar is one that sounded interesting. The title alone for obvious reasons but the description too made me interested.
A book that is both simple and has such depth that I will not begin to try and suggest I understand it. Just simply state that I enjoyed it and leave it at that. The life lead in this short novel is so basic so simple yet the world lived in is so polar opposite it that is strikes a cord and sits with you.

I’m not sure how to describe or review this book. The sun shines a different color depending on the day of the week, tigers can speak and all is made with watermelon sugar. How symbolic it all is. How each individual who reads it interprets the book is really what has to be looked for as I don’t think two people would come away with the same views and feelings about this book. Best part is I’m not sure those views and feelings can be described, not many people are as vivid as Brautigan.

Unique and special I finished it in a day. I see why it’s on the list, unlike any other book I have read.

Mail call

This last week has done well for me as I have received numerous emails letting me know I’m a winner on a number of book giveaways. Looking forward to them but aside from the emails with the good news I also received goodies in the mail.

The first from Bites whose blog I enjoy very much so it’s nice that I got to be a winner on one of her giveaways. From her I received The Puzzle King by Betsy Carter.

I also oddly enough received two of the same book. How I won two copies I don’t know however I know that someone will be getting a book for Christmas this year. Who I will give it to, yet to be decided but I obviously don’t need two copies despite the fact that I was quite please either way.

I won Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett from Book Lust and from Grasping For The Wind

Jeff Lindsay – Dexter by Design review

Dexter by Design is the newest Jeff Lindsay novel. The fourth in the Dexter series is a major improvement over the third which sadly was a disappointment to fans, in particular after the awesomeness of the second novel.

I did however feel that this one as well was not up there. The first two are brilliant and I just loved them. I did not get into this one until about page 100 when Dexter kills for the first time in the book. It started good though with Dexter and his oblivious new bride on their Honeymoon in France why I enjoyed it can be found in the last teaser Tuesday in which a couple of lines sums up how cool Lindsay can be.

I’d love more Dexter and the way the book ended it is clear there is more to come, I just hope that the books continue to improve. Unfortunately the last two have not been up there with the first two and as such while I being a fan will of course read them I will simply be in less of a hurry to get my hands on them. Disappointing to say but it is the truth.

Teaser Tuesday

Ok so here it is the rules of Teaser Tuesday started by Should Be Reading

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today I’ll be sharing a couple of lines from Dexter By Design by Jeff Lindsay
an author who I am proud to say ( feather in cap ) I was reading before he became all popular due to the T.V. series.

Then she raised one hand of the crutches, leaned forward, and touched the leg bone.
“Sexy,” she said.
