I’ve signed up for EdenFantasys Naked Reader Book Club. I’ll periodically be reviewing books for them as well as other awesome goodies from Eden. A couple of which I have already reviewed such as the AMI kegal exerciser and the Betty Dodson dvd Celebrating Orgasm.
Of the two books available to me for review I selected this one for a couple of reasons. First it has been on my TBR list for a while so I got excited when I saw it was available to me. Second the cover is simply amazing. Third I have never read steampunk. Nope never and being the eclectic reader I am I’ve been wanting to try so again when a good thing becomes available you grab the opportunity.
This book is all steampunk which was great for me as I got to get a taste of this great genre. Also erotica is a genre I enjoy but to be honest most erotica I have read has been quite disappointing so I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy it. My personal views on erotica is that it should have sex, porn in written form so to speak. Anne Rices Beauty trilogy is the one I like to point to as an example or erotica I loved. They are a perfect example of what I think erotica should be. Her other books also erotica not the vampire or mummy ones are also great. She and I see eye to eye on what erotica should be however most erotica I have read has very little actual sex. It eludes and hints all subtle and smooth neither of which I am. Well I can be when I want but not when it comes to sex. Then I want detail and description not simply innuendo.
Carnal Machines I enjoyed. It had the right mix of erotic and steampunk. The stories were great and as someone who loves short stories it was a real treat. I really don’t know why short stories aren’t more popular.
When you get a mix of short stories there tend to be a few you enjoy the most. I’ll be honest that I thought they all were good. There were many great lines but I’m sharing these ones.
From Lucifer Einstein And The Curious Case
If men were to discover how well a mechanical device could pleasure a woman, do you not think all such instruments would be destroyed? How then would the ladies suffering from hysteria feel surcease from their problems?
From Lair Of The Red Countess
The countess held a sleek cane in her gloved hands. The way she ran it over her palm was exceedingly lewd. If she didn’t stop, he was going to fill his undergarments with a hefty dollop of his gentlemen’s vitality.
