Take a look see at this interesting email I received from Jon. F. Merz. This is a very interesting way for an author to go about getting his work off the ground one I’ve never seen done before.

Jon F. Merz & ZOMBIE RYU: The Gathering

Hi Everyone!

What do samurai, ninja, and zombies have in common?

They’re all a part of my brand new illustrated novel projectZOMBIE RYU!  I’m planning this to be a trilogy of exciting books that revolve around a horde of zombies unleashed on feudal Japan and the elite group of warriors who must come together to stop them – and the evil monk who brought them forth.  Along for the ride is a 16 year old girl named Shigoko, who may or may not prove to be incredibly vital to subduing the zombies and the evil monk.

Sounds like fun, right?

Well, I’m trying something new this time:  Kickstarter.  Never heard of it?  Think of it as crowd sourcing funding for various projects in the arts.  You pledge a certain amount of money toward the funding goal of a project and if enough donations are made, the project is funded.  Kickstarter is an ALL OR NOTHING deal, which means that if we don’t reach the funding goal, then we don’t get ANY of the money that has been pledged.  So it’s really important for us to reach the amount we’re shooting for.

For ZOMBIE RYU, we’re trying to get $18,000 in support.  That $18,000 goes to artwork, formatting, printing, shipping, rewards costs, and more.  It might seem like a large amount, but it’s actually not.  And if everyone on my newsletter list pledges just $25, then it’s easily attainable.  Of course, you can always donate more – if you happen to REALLY like my writing – feel free to donate as much as you can.  Every dollar helps.  And I’ve got some very cool rewards set up for anyone who donates.

Visit my Kickstarter page to watch my video, learn more about the project, and then donate, by clicking the image above.  And please be sure to spread the word.  The more people who can donate, the better.  And we need to do this quickly.  The Kickstarter campaign ends in a little over one week!

Thanks for your help – I really think ZOMBIE RYU is going to be an absolute blast and with your backing, it will be even cooler.

-Jon

Derek, who is a ghost emailed me asking to review his book. I of course said yes I mean he’s a ghost it’s not like I’m going to argue with the dead. It’s a good thing to because I loved this book. Scary School is an awesome place. A very entertaining school one I suspect everyone would like to attend, except for the whole getting eaten by the teachers bit.

Poor Derek died in a classroom accident and has been haunting Scary School, having some free time on his hands he’s put together all the interesting things that have happened in school the past year and that is the first book. There will be one coming out each year. Clearly Derek is dedicated to sharing the happenings of Scary School, a good thing too because his stories are fun, entertaining and I loved getting to know all the students and teachers.

Each chapter is about a student or teacher moving the story along. All of the people or monsters are so much fun I loved reading about and getting to know them. A dragon, a t-rex, a vampire, the octopus chef, zombies, ghouls, giants and the occasional human. The illustrations were fantastic and just as entertaining as the story was. A wonderful job done by the artist Scott M. Fischer. The books ends with the annual Ghoul Games held at Scary School for the first time. Will Scary School be triumphant? Well you’ll just have to read it to find out.

This book is for young kids 8 and up but seriously as an adult I had a great time reading Scary School it’s funny and charming. I highly recommend getting this for the little people in your life or for that matter enjoying it yourself. Why should the kids get all the fun and laughs?

Thanks to Derek for my review copy.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

Everneath, seriously this book is looking to be the best YA book I’ve read this year.

The woman looked up at Maxwell with a pathetic expression on her face, and then she nodded resolutely. Max handed her the object, and the woman brought it to her lips.

I’ll be having many tours coming up, this one featuring the new book The Lonely Dominant by Ella Jade.

Successful businessman Alec Carter realizes his life is less than fulfilled when he meets beautiful Princeton University senior Clara Whittaker at a local coffee shop. Alec experiments in the BDSM lifestyle but doesn’t consider himself hardcore until he crosses paths with the obviously submissive Clara. The more time Alec spends with young Clara, the more his dominant tendencies push to the surface. She could be what has been missing.
After her grandmother’s death, Clara ends up a guest in Alec’s home until she can finish school. She quickly learns she’s a natural submissive and decides she wants to explore this new side of herself with the man of house. Alec shows her a life she never knew existed as they enter into a world of role playing, fantasy, and desire. Alec may be the Master, but Clara holds the key to his heart.
As the semester comes to an end, so does their arrangement. If Alec doesn’t admit his true feelings for Clara, she could walk out of his life forever. But, Alec isn’t sure which she craves more . . . his dominance . . . or his love.

Can you tell us about yourself
I’m a SAHM to two active boys. They are in school full-time now, so that gives me plenty of time to write and tell the stories that have been swirling around in my head for years. The plots and dialogue have always played out in my brain but I never knew what to do with them until I found the eBooks industry. Now I’m penning books at a rapid pace and I can’t be stopped.
I live in NJ with my husband and two boys. When I’m not writing, I like to kick box, scrapbook and spend time with my kids.
For those of us new to your work what do we have to look forward to with your books?
I’m a dialogue kind of girl. I think the conversations should drive the plot. My characters talk to me often and I always listen. Lol Most people worry when they hear voices inside their head, but I worry when I don’t hear those voices. I like to throw in just enough angst and drama to keep it interesting, but I always deliver the HEA.
What are you reading now?
Sadly, nothing at the moment. My Kindle is sitting lonely. But, that’s only because I’m trying to finish my next WIP. I’ve set a December 1 deadline for myself.
Do you get ideas for your books from your own life?
Not really. I’ve always had a pretty active imagination. I love to create characters and figure out how I’m going to throw them together. One of my favorite things about being a romance author is creating situations that lead my characters to their destiny.
What kind of research do you do for your books?
I google EVERYTHING! I had to research the BDSM lifestyle quite a bit when writing my last two books. I read as many articles and interviews as I can find. I’m constantly looking things up.
What do you have planned upcoming?
I have my first m/m contemporary romance releasing with Beachwalk Press on December 19, 2011. Here’s the blurb for Embracing The Unexpected.
Sometimes love can be found where we least expect it.
Successful attorney Parker Phillips has always been straight, but he’s having trouble finding the right woman. Failed relationship after failed relationship has proven that.
Brilliant and charismatic Dr. Jace Cross is comfortable in his sexuality, but has been single for some time. He throws himself into his work to fill the lonely void. He’s drawn to Parker in ways he knows he shouldn’t be.
When one bad decision lands Parker in Jace’s court-appointed anger management course, sparks fly. Parker isn’t willing to embrace his feelings. Can the sexy doctor help him discover who he truly is?
What is your working routine and work space like?
I try to write while the kids are at school, but most nights I’m up pretty late writing. I seem to be most creative later in the day. Right now, I’m set up in my dining room. The laptop is always close by. But, now that my writing career has taken off, I may have to borrow some of the basement space from my kids. I need a desk! My husband keeps kicking me out of his office. lol

I broke the kiss and gently stroked her hair. “Thank you for letting me be the first to bring you that pleasure. You don’t know how it pleases me.”
I continued to stare at her for a few moments, occasionally placing a soft kiss on her lips.
“I want to please you,” she said. “I can’t explain it, but I have these urges to make you happy.”
“What do you mean?” I said, figuring we might as well put it all on the table.
“Ever since I met you, there’s just been something about you. It’s the way you act, and you always seem to have control over everything. It’s really sexy.”
I smirked, because she got me completely.
“When I hear you on the phone for work, you just say what needs to be done. You never ask, and you always get results. There are times when I think I want you to talk to me that way. Is there something wrong with me? I can’t even believe I’m telling you this.”
I laughed, because if there was something wrong with her, then I was certainly a head case.
“Clara,” I picked up her shirt from the floor and handed it to her, “there’s nothing wrong with you. I think there’s a very specific reason we’re drawn to one another.”
“Why?”
“Do you know what a Dominant is?” Why waste time?
I was never the type to beat around the bush. When I wanted something, I put it out there. This was no different. She may not have realized it, but she was attracted to me because she was submissive. Exactly how submissive? I wasn’t sure, but I hoped to find out.
She quickly put her blouse back on and buttoned it up. We’d have to work on her modesty, too. I planned to have her naked quite a bit.
“I think so,” she said. “It’s when a person takes on the dominant role in a sexual relationship.”
I smiled. “Yes, that’s part of it, but it’s also the Dom’s responsibility to teach and help his submissive reach pleasure beyond her wildest dreams. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship between two consenting adults.”
“Alec, are you dominant?”
“In almost every aspect of my life, especially in the bedroom.”
“Oh,” she said, as she adjusted her skirt.
“Does that bother you?” I’d give her the opportunity to run screaming from the house.
“Actually,” she said, and the blush took over her face again. “It kind of intrigues me.”
“Really?”
She nodded.
“Do you know anything about that type of relationship?” I pulled her closer to me. She was so soft and warm, and I couldn’t keep my hands off her. I’d touch her all day if I could.
“Not firsthand, obviously.” She traced my lips with her fingertip. I liked when she touched me unprovoked. “I had a human sexuality course last semester and we discussed dominant and submissive behaviors, and I realized I could be a submissive. Not extremely submissive. I mean, I don’t think I could be someone’s slave, or do it twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, but I found it a turn-on.”
Is this really happening?
“The more I learned about the subject, the more I realized I wanted to be dominated,” she said. “But, it wasn’t something I thought I could explore. I wouldn’t even know how to go about it.”
Surreal was the only way to describe what was happening here. Anytime I’d engaged in this behavior, I’d had to seek out my subs as discreetly as possible. I would go through friends I knew in the community to find a woman who was into the same things I was. I’d always had difficulty finding someone who was only interested in light play. Most subs were looking for long-term, hard play, and as secure as I was, I just wasn’t into beating or humiliating anyone. I also liked having the power of being able to play when I wanted to.
“I’m not a hard-core Dom. I’ve dabbled, but I’ve never collared a sub, and I’ve never been in a relationship with one before. I enjoy the lifestyle, but I did it only with a willing partner, and only for brief periods of time. We both took what we needed from the experience, and then we mutually parted ways.”
She looked disappointed by my response. Maybe she thought I was more involved in the lifestyle?
“It’s a very satisfying experience when both participants are open and honest about their wants and desires. The pleasures I’ve gained through my past experiences were like none I’d ever experienced before.”
“I’d like to try it,” she said. “I want to submit to you.”
“You’re so young.” Her age didn’t bother me. Rather, I knew she was so inexperienced when it came to sex and relationships. I wasn’t certain she could make this kind of decision. “I’d need you to be absolutely sure.”
“You said it was consensual. I wouldn’t have to do anything I didn’t want to, and if I remember correctly, there are safe words we could use.”
“I think you know more than you’re letting on.” I arched a brow at her, but I was impressed by her openness. I was surprised she had the courage to press the matter.
“I may have researched the subject a couple of times.”
“You’re right about safe words. They are set up to protect not only your physical boundaries, but your emotional limits as well. I would push your limits, but only to show you how much pleasure you could gain. I couldn’t do this 24/7 either. We’d have to come up with some sort of agreement, since we live under the same roof.” Are we really entertaining this?
“Weekends?” She shrugged. “Maybe we could try it out?”
I smiled and gently kissed her lips. “Yes, I think weekends would work perfectly.”

Thanks for having me. I love making new friends so please come connect with me at http://ellajadeauthor.blogspot.com
Ella Jade has been writing for as long as she can remember. As a child, she often had a notebook and pen with her and now as an adult, the laptop is never far. The plots and dialogue have always played out in her head, but she never knew what to do with them. That all changed when she discovered the EBooks industry. She started penning novels at a rapid pace and now she can’t be stopped.
Ella resides in New Jersey with her husband and two young boys. When she’s not chasing after her kids, she’s busy writing, kickboxing and scrapbooking. She hope’s you’ll get lost in her words.

I was contacted by Jeremy Mark Lane asking if I would be interested in reviewing his newest book which will be released early next year. In the email he mentioned that he was from the North Texas area and being that I’m in Dallas I just had to say yes to reviewing a local authors work. I’m not sure what it is about a book that sometimes makes me say yes. I have said no to a few books based on the fact that the subject simply doesn’t appeal. In this case I didn’t even read up on the book just he’s local cool lol yep that was my deciding factor.
I’ve just finished the book and have come to realize that it really doesn’t matter why I said yes to the review I’m simply thrilled that I did.

While I’m Still Myself is a book that I found touching and haunting. It is a small and short book which surprised me as I wasn’t expecting it to only be 127 pages. I also not having looked into the book was surprised that is was short stories. I love short stories and don’t know why publishers don’t stand behind authors and their short stories, brilliance doesn’t only come in novel length. I salute Tate Publishing for publishing this book I also thank Jeremy for contacting me. I loved this book. The only fault I can find is that it ended. I was sad to see it go.

The short stories are beautifully written and have so much depth and emotion to them. They get right in your heart and in so few pages I’m amazed that it’s even possible but in just a few pages your sucked in feeling so deeply for characters you’ve only just met.

I highly recommend checking out this book. It will be released early next year and is a great book to add to the shelf or ereader being so few pages you’ll breeze through it and then be sorry it’s over.
It’s one of the best ones I’ve read this year and anyone who misses out on it is missing an exceptional read.
