I must confess that this is not my kind of read. I’m behind in reviewing and just couldn’t say no to it’s short under 60 pages so I could share a review. Having said that I must say that this is a book that I have no doubt will appeal greatly to those interested in erotic/paranormal romance.

So why did I not love it? Well one of my issues with books like this is the interaction between the studly guy and buxom gal. It’s all me man possess you woman oh take me you big manly strong beast you make me soooo moist down there. Sigh cliche!

While the inevitable sex scene came along which a part of I thought was silly. When he went down on her the way he described her well here

Miles of pale skin were spread before him, and at their apex was a glistening, shimmering oasis he was almost positive had to be a mirage. Sinking to his knees in reverence, he just looked upon her for several long moments. Starting at the small thatch of blonde hair that served as more of a halo than any sort of protection, he slide his thumbs down her intimate lips, spreading her so that he had an even better view of her splendor.

Now I can’t get a guy to do this not to mention act like he’s worshiping so perhaps all I am is an envious bitch but to me it was a little much.

Having said that I loved the scene when she went down on him. The description of his reaction when she has his balls in her mouth well now that was smirk worthy yeah who’s in charge now.

So while I felt it had short comings ( no pun I swear ) it had a great deal of appeal. For example the humor was great. I totally laughed at a scene where our damsel get’s walked in on naked and she’s grabbed her boobs to try and cover but clearly some guy walks in to find a woman holding her tatas’s he’s just going to get even more um well you know and the hilarious comparison of boobs to bread dough lol so true never thought about that.

The book is very cut and dry and I would have loved for it to be expanded on but then this is the first in a series so I am sure that will happen as is the story was very basic. Total nut job crazy bad guy, girl with magical powers, man beast hybrid for her to have sexy time with all come together for a showdown and lots of nakedness.

The sexual tension between Nicole and Gideon was good. The start of the book when she gets a call from said bad guy who she thought was dead was a good start but then she’s throwing up on herself in fright ewww said man beast finds her passed out cold and still finds her irresistible and she smells awesome under the vomit odor. o.O Okay then.

The end to set up the next in the series was well done and I can see it happening for a while the chase being on while the lust and tearing each others clothes off moves things along in the story.

I simply found a few things cliche and while I realize this is my view I know that many others would enjoy this story and the fantasy. Those who enjoy this genre I’d say check it out it’s a great little read while waiting at the doctors office or on the bus/train to/from work or school. In fact I recommend it as the public transportation read so you can sit there entertained and smirking over the sex while everyone else is staring off into space bored out of their mind.

The Monster Within as long as it’s a genre you like it’s one to check out.

Author Lola Rayne and The Monster Within can be found here

Sometimes the monster that haunted you as a child truly is real… All it took was one phone call to bring Nicole Jones’s life crumbling down around her. Now a nightmare she thought she’d left in her past is back, and he’s not exactly bringing her candy and flowers. While fleeing, in a non-terrified fashion, she meets a menacing man in a dark alley. Then promptly passes out at his feet. Gideon Evans hasn’t exactly been having the best run of luck, but all that changes when a buxom little blonde collapses right in front of him. Or at least he thinks it has. It doesn’t take him long to realize that bombshell is an appropriate description for more than just her looks. Now he’s facing several problems, including a surprising enemy, his own dark past, and a rather inconvenient case of lust. Can they work together to battle the nightmare that’s chasing them? Or will they succumb to the monster within?
