I have been a big Rhiannon Frater fan for some time. I was lucky and got her first book in the As the Wold Dies series from TOR for review. From that moment on I knew she was an author who’s work I would have to follow and who’s series I would read no matter what.

The second in the series I pre-ordered and Siege I was so excited about I asked for a review copy and to take part in the tour. Clearly I’m a fan.

I’m not sure how most people see zombie movies and books, many don’t care for them they only think of the gore for me it’s the exact opposite I think of the humanity. I think of not the zombies, the death, the end of the world well okay I do but I also think of the fight to live. About how in the worst situation the best in people can come out. Leadership that would never have come about, strength of character that one may never have known was there and yes sometimes the worst the panic, the fear.

Siege is a fantastic conclusion to a series that had me hooked from the start. From that opening paragraph with the little fingers under the door I was sucked it and have been in Rhiannon’s grasp ever since.

What appealed to me aside from the well crafted characters and story was the emotional impact the story had. I was laughing and crying. Rhiannon doesn’t shy away from taking her characters right to the edge and then throwing them off it in a very dramatic way. Siege is a must read for zombie lovers yes but anyone who likes survival, character driven well crafted reads will appreciate it for what it is. . . Excellent.

Be sure to enter the giveaway for a copy of Siege from yesterdays tour post.

“We don’t have a plan, Jenni.”Ed shouted after her. Jenni stalked toward the undead swarm. “Kill the fuckers! That’s the plan!”

The bolt punctured the top of the zombie’s head and it fell limbs askew. “Penis, I see a penis! It’s a boy!”

Siege is the conclusion to Rhiannon Frater’s As the World Dies trilogy, which should appeal to fans of The Walking Dead. Both The First Days and Fighting to Survive won the Dead Letter Award from Mail Order Zombie. The First Days was named one of the Best Zombie Books of the Decade by the Harrisburg Book Examiner.

The zombie illness has shattered civilization. The survivors who have found tenuous safety in Texas defend their fort against the walking dead and living bandits.

Katie has made peace with the death of her wife and is pregnant and married to Travis, who has been elected Mayor. Jenni, her stepson, Jason; and Juan—Travis’s righthand man—are a happy family, though Jenni suffers from PTSD. Both women are deadly zombie killers.

In Siege, the people of Ashley Oaks are stunned to discover that the vice president of the United States is alive and commanding the remnants of the US military. What’s left of the US government has plans for this group of determined survivors.
